The 150ft Landing Craft, “M/V Unalaq,” is one of our principle marine vessels. It has a shallow draft of 4’ to 5’ 8” (depending on load) and is supplied with all the necessary equipment for loading and off-loading cargo. On the Unalaq, we have accommodations for up to ten guests in five staterooms and a commercial kitchen and dining room. We also carry a variety of equipment suited to our unique client needs including a 19’ Rigid Hull inflatable with 90 HP outboard motor, Hitachi 110 Excavator, Masted Volvo 220 Loader (capable of carrying 40,000 lbs.), fork extensions for the Volvo Loader, and 20 DuraMatts for building roadway on beaches or other soft terrain.

Our 130’ by 35’ barge “Ace,” 79’ by 40’ barge “Arvik,” and 75’ by 32’ barge “Kalskag,” are all extreme shallow draft barges capable of transit in rivers and near coastal waterways. These open deck barges have removable 29’ ramps, 4,000, 2,500, and 2,100 square feet of usable deck space, and a maximum weight capacity of up to 600 Tons. Our 26’, three story push boats, “Kautauraq” and “Little Miska,” have a combined 660 HP each and can maneuver extremely well in swift, shallow water with limited space. This push boat & barge combination is an outstanding platform for a number of inland and near coastal services including, hauling gravel, cargo, and equipment.

Our Seattle based tug and barge service transports project based cargo (up to 8,000 ton utilizing 18,000sq feet of deck space) into multiple Alaska ports including Seward, Dutch Harbor, Bethel and Nome. We are also available to service primary port communities such as Adak, Dilligham, and Kotzebue. Utilizing our lightering vessels, Bowhead Transport can also deliver direct to most communities on the Kuskokwim River and the other outlying coastal communities in Southcentral Alaska, Aleutians and Western Alaska.

Bowhead Transport has two smaller, specialized shallow-draft coastal and river lighterage vessels available—The M/V Doctor Island and M/V Crescent Island. These high-speed landing crafts are designed to provide transport, accommodate guests in an enclosed heated cabin, and carry small cargo up to 4000 lbs. Both of these marine vessels have twin Volvo engines and can cruise at speeds over 30 knots.
